Last night was gorgeous, with some stiff competition from some of the ringers we have not seen in a while. Scott Henry threw down and just annihilated an A Short Track field that featured luminaries including Scott Wetherald and last year’s series champion Sean Sindt. The top ‘crossers with David Golden, Kevin Farley, and Mark Wiggans, promoter of the Wurstcross Memorial in 2 weeks. The Bs were a predictably giant field, with some of the state’s fastest roadie youth showing up to throw down Single Speeds, and the sprint of the night going to Cat 5 State Champ Eardie Curry who ran a 4.4 40 from the barriers to the finish line. Thanks for coming out – hope to see you Saturday at AustinCross!

A lovely fall evening
It is looking like conditions will be perfect for the Dirt Derby this week. With the road season pretty much over and a big mountain bike race coming up, we are expecting big turn out.
Starting this week, there will be free HEED sports drink on tap, courtesy of our good friends at Hammer Nutrition. Use the extra juice to power your way through a second race: the Oakley Velodrome races are a blast. This week the heats will be as follows:
Match Sprints – Heat 1
A Point-a-lap
B Unknown Distance
Sprint Finals
A&B combined Madison
Also, don’t forget that the Dirt Derby goes on a grand scale in a little more than 2 weeks, with the launch of the Lonestar Cyclocross Series at the Second Annual Pflugerville Grand Prix. Mountain bikers can rejoice as well, as the following week at the TMBRA Power Pedal race, we’ll be hosting AggieCross and the first Texas Short Track race. Registration is now open at BikeReg.com.
Week 1 Results are posted
The Dirt Derby is underway! We had 55 racers out tearing up the new and improved course, including a great bunch of kids, Longhorns, and women racers. Sol Frost (AustinBikes) dominated most of the night, with C.A.B.A.L. henchman “Keirin” Sikdar stomping the ‘cross field then RIDING BACK TO AUSTIN.
Next week get $3 off your entry fee!
Let’s help feed the hungry. If you bring two food items to the Dirt Derby, you’ll get $3 off a race entry. The food will be donated to the Capital Area Food Bank for their Hunger Action Month initiative, and the race fees will be covered by our online marketing partners, Stalelife and Adomatica.
Racing two events? Bring four items and get $3 off each race. The Food Bank is looking for canned meats like tuna, stew and chili (pop-tops preferred), canned vegetables, pasta & pasta sauce, beans, rice, healthy cereals, peanut butter, baby food & baby formula. For more information, visit the Food Bank website.
