Racing Returns with Ladies Night and a New Sponsor

After a week sadly disrupted by rain, the Peddler Dirt Derby is back in action this Tuesday night! We are expecting beautiful weather and hope that the week without racing has only built anticipation for this weeks Derby action.

Tuesday will also be our 2nd Ladies Night of the season, so we would love to see as many ladies, and men dressed like ladies racing for free as possible.

But wait there is more exciting news, The Peddler Dirt Derby is pleased to announce a new sponsor for the 2011 season: Grease Monkey Wipes.

Grease Monkey Wipes are multi-purpose cleaning wipes that use an all natural, citrus formula for heavy duty cleaning. Each wipe easily removes grease, grime, oil, brake dust, and other general filth from your bike or your skin without using harsh chemicals. The portable nature of the wipes mean you can take them anywhere to clean up your bike at anytime.

Grease Monkey Wipes is an Austin-based company that is proud to support all aspects of cyclocross and mountain bike racing. To find out more about the company please visit www.greasemonkeywipes.com or follow them on Twitter at @MonkeyWipes.

To recap, The Peddler Dirt Derby is back this week, its ladies night, and we have cool new sponsorship to be excited about. So go cruise around on the Grease Monkey Wipes websites and we hope to see ya’ll out there tomorrow night!

It’s not called The Peddler Dirt Derby without reason. Racing makes bikes dirty; Grease Monkey Wipes makes bikes clean.

Peddler Dirt Derby Cancelled Tonight

Sorry, all. We just got word that there’s too much standing water on the track for us to race tonight.

There are a bunch of puddles on the course and the track manager will be spending today cutting furrows to ease the drainage, so it’s not in condition to be ridden.

We will push back Ladies Night until next Tuesday, and hopefully we won’t have bunches of rain in the intervening time.

Another Ladies’ Night Tomorrow!

We had so much fun with the first one that we’re throwing another: The Peddler Dirt Derby will have its second Ladies Night of the year tomorrow. So, women and guys who look suspiciously like women get to race for free.

A very novel thing happened over the weekend: rain fell from the sky. A few clear days and the fact that the dirt wasn’t saturated at all have us pretty confident that we don’t need to cancel races tomorrow, so we are all a go for racing tomorrow night. However, if the course is wetter than we predict, we will let y’all know via the website, our facebook and our twitter.

Lastly, we had some awesome coverage of last week’s races: Austin on Two Wheels had an article posted, Prolly is not Probably posted an article and took some photos, and DCM Photography took some photos as well.

Ladies Night tomorrow; we hope to see y’all out there.

Week Two Peddler Dirt Derby Results Are Posted!

We had another great showing this week at the Peddler Dirt Derby, thank you to everyone who came out.
In our effort to constantly keep riders guessing, we followed up last weeks “dust bowl” with perfect weather. It seemed fitting to have cool skies and sand on the ground for our inaugural Cruiser Class race, that proved to be both a battle of grit and courage.

To continue on with this weeks theme, cruise on over to the results tab and check out the great performances from Tuesdays racing!

Peddler Dirt Derby + Beginner Cross Clinic

We had an excellent kick off to the 2011 Peddler Dirt Derby last week and we’re back this week with another Tuesday night of racing with a new racing class and a beginner cyclocross clinic.

–Dust off your old beach cruiser bikes, bmx bikes, borrow a kids bike or ride a singlespeed anything for a quick one-lap race around the course in our new Cruiser Class right after the Intermediate CX race and just before the Open race. It’s free, and it’s fun.

–Austin on Two Wheels is pleased to offer a free beginner cyclocross clinic each Tuesday beginning at 5:45 out at The Peddler Dirt Derby. They’ll cover dismounts and remounts, running barrier, shouldering the bike, dealing with run ups, and an overview of cyclocross equipment. No experience necessary, all types of bike are welcome and then put your new skills to the test right afterwards in our Beginner CX Race.

–In addition, we’ll have some racers from the North American Cycle Courier Championships racing as they begin a week-long bike messenger throwdown all right here in Austin.

Plus, a regular night of fun racing at The Peddler Dirt Derby! Kids Race, Beginner Race, two intermediate races and then our Open Race provide a night full of cyclocross and MTB excitement. And we’ll have free Luna bar samples that were supposed to be given out last week but were then forgot about!

We hope to see y’all out again this Tuesday,

First Peddler Dirt Derby Results!

It was our largest night yet – thanks to all those who showed up. It was also our dustiest night yet, as after the Beginner race wind gusts kicked up dust for a good 20 minutes in conditions that were hard on those who have had two pairs of glasses lost and another break within the past month…

When the dust had settled it turned out to be a nice night, with lightning in the south and good racing on the track.

All that to say, results are over on the results tab.

This post would be more interesting if we had a photo to go along with it – if you took some, share them with us via facebook or email or something.

Presenting The Peddler Dirt Derby

The Dirt Derby is excited to be returning with a Ladies Night this Tuesday, the 27th and we’re proud to announce our title sponsor for this season: The Peddler Bike Shop

We’ve been friends with The Peddler and they’ve been sponsoring us for a couple years, so we’re excited that they’ve taken over the title sponsorship for this years Dirt Derby. The Peddler will be providing mechanical support many nights, will donate product, provide us with lovely refreshments some nights, run a charity night and provide support through the year. With their help, we’re going to continue to improve Dirt Derby and make it the best race series that we can.

Making it the best that we can entails having an awesome opening night, and here’s what we’ve got going on this upcoming Tuesday:

  • It’s Ladies Night! Women, and guys dressed like women (that’s always a bit odd), race for free! It’s an excellent way to try out The Peddler Dirt Derby on us; and we’re sure you’ll enjoy it.
  • Members of the Texas High Mountain Bike League also race for free and as do all entrants in the Kids Race.

If you want to save some time on registration, fill out our waiver beforehand.

Beyond The Peddler, we’re excited to be working with plenty of other sponsors this year, many of them who we’ve worked with in the past. Austin on Two Wheels, f3 Designs, and Tom Mahnke Realty. We’ll be letting you know more about them through the year and we hope you’ll express your thanks for them supporting our race series this year.

With all that said: let’s race some bikes on Tuesday.

Dirt Derby 2011!

The 2011 Dirt Derby will return on Sept. 27th and run through Dec 16th, with two six-week series.

Then we’ll be back in the spring from Jan 10th to Feb 14th for another six week series! The 2011 Dirt Derby cannot be contained by any nominal understanding of the calendar year. Finish 2011 with us, and then start kicking it in 2012 as well.

We are conducting talks with sponsors, will have more exciting news soon, and look forward to racing with y’all soon.
